Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;Prov 3:5 NKJV
Being a parent is a perfect job to remind anyone of the simplest concepts of the Christian walk. Take one of the most recent issues that my family and I dealt with.
My daughter had used mommy’s craft scissors for an art project. She had permission and is very good with them. The problem came when she had a small accident. She had managed to get a small cut on her right thumb. It wasn’t a very big cut and would have been fine had we known about it. Instead, fearing trouble, she did her best to hide this from her mother and I. This is where her problems started. She finally reported it to us about a week later. By this time, her finger had become infected and was in need of professional care.
This started me to think about how we as children of God are guilty of some of the same behavior. We make mistakes and “hide” from God. Allow me to share some of those thoughts with you today.
I. We Can Never Hide From God
Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute— you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you. Psalms 139:7-12 MSG
The psalmist makes it very clear here that it is impossible to escape God. God is everywhere . We can never escape His presence. It would be easier to just admit what we have done and avoid all the guilt and shame that separates us from God’s presence. While God knows about it anyway, our hiding, causes us lose touch with Him. We must never forget that God cares for you and I very deeply.
II. God Wants To Help Us In Times of Trouble.
God is not looking for ways to smack us down dead. On the contrary, God is looking for ways to bring us into a closer relationship with himself. That was the point of Christ coming as a man. God cares for you so very much that He would sacrifice everything for you.
He wants you to bring your troubles to Him. He is our closest friend and confident. He is there for you God cares for you more than you may even realize.
III. We can Always Trust Him
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
God always wants what is best for us. Just like little kids, we may not always agree because it takes away from our perceived fun. What child wants to go to be at a reasonable time. Yet, if he doesn’t, then he is weak and grouchy the next day. We can see beyond the now into tomorrow for the child. God does the same for us as well. He can see beyond our present into our past and future. His knowledge is not restricted to the confines of time. We can always trust God. You can know that God cares for you today and always.
I would like to hear from you on some examples of where you found out the hard way it is better to go to God first than solve yourself. What have you experienced?
